Healing Shingles: A Journey of Grace

The journey toward recovery can often feel like an uphill climb, especially when your body is weary from the fire of Shingles. You may be intimately familiar with the sharp, localized stabs of nerve pain, the exhaustion that settles deep in your bones, and the physical sensitivity of skin that feels as though it has been through a battle. In these moments, it is natural to feel that the burden of “getting better” rests entirely on your shoulders—that you must muster enough strength, enough resolve, or enough effort to pull yourself back into health.

However, there is a profound peace available to you today: the responsibility for your healing does not belong to you. Healing is not a wage you earn through your own stamina or a reward for your personal perfection. Instead, it is an unearned gift of grace, a “children’s bread” provided by a Father who delights in the well-being of His family.

The Great Exchange: Your Pain for His Peace

When we look at the foundations of restoration, we see a beautiful exchange that took place long before you felt the first symptom of illness. In the ancient texts, the prophet spoke of a servant who would take on the burdens of humanity. While these words are often translated as “griefs” and “sorrows,” the original language reveals a much more physical reality. The Hebrew words choli and makob literally mean “sicknesses” and “pains.”

“Surely he hath borne our sicknesses, and carried our pains: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.” (Isaiah 53:4)

This means that the nerve pain, the “scabbed” or irritated skin, and the “palsies” of discomfort you are experiencing were already carried by another. You are not trying to convince a distant Power to notice your struggle; you are simply accepting a gift that has already been purchased. Just as a gift placed in a loved one’s pocket belongs to them before they even see it, your healing is a finished provision waiting for you to simply rest within it.

Healing as a Free Gift of Grace

There is a common misconception that we must reach a certain level of spiritual “performance” to qualify for recovery. We ask ourselves, “Have I been good enough? Have I done enough?” But the reality of grace removes that pressure entirely. In the early days of the gathered community, miracles were not distributed based on the “law” or the “material” efforts of the people. They were a manifestation of the Spirit’s generosity.

“I ask then: when God gives you the Spirit and works miracles among you, why is this? Is it because you keep the law, or is it because you have faith in the Gospel message?” (Galatians 3:5)

The “law of the Spirit of life” is a force that works in the body just as naturally as nutrients from food provide strength to the flesh. You do not have to understand the chemistry of a meal for it to nourish you; you simply consume it. Similarly, you do not have to master the mechanics of divine restoration. You can be “fully possessed” by the peace of knowing that your Father is a rich Father who does not wish to see His children in “rags” or in “pain.” He is the Good Shepherd who leads you to good pastures—not because you found the way yourself, but because He is faithful to lead.

Rest in the Provision

If you are recovering from Shingles, you may feel “distressed” by the weight of the symptoms. Yet, history is filled with reports of “all the other sick people” coming and being cured—not because they were special, but because they heard the report and believed it.

The “arm of the Lord” is revealed to those who believe the report. And what is that report? It is the news that you are “ransomed,” “rescued,” and “redeemed.” You have been bought with a price, and that purchase includes the wholeness of your “complex being: body, soul, and spirit.”

“Therefore they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word… and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city.” (Acts 8:4, 7-8)

How to Receive Your Recovery

Expect your healing as a free gift. When doubt brings sadness or complaints, remember that faith is simply the act of being “glad” for a gift you haven’t fully unwrapped yet. You can look at the symptoms—the lingering stabs of pain or the fatigue—and say with confidence, “This does not belong to me.”

You are not “trying” to get healed; you are recognizing that the work is done. The responsibility for the transfer of that gift lies in the hands of the One who promised it. Your only “job” is to stay close to the Shepherd, to “listen to and recognize” the inner voice of peace, and to refuse the urge to water down the promise to match a temporary experience.

Recovery is not a mountain you have to climb; it is a river you choose to float in. Let the Spirit fill the entire range of your being today. You are cherished, you are covered by grace, and your restoration is a gift that has already been given. Take heart, be encouraged, and expect to see the goodness of life manifest in your flesh today.

Migraines and Healing Prayer: Moving from “If” to “I Will”

When a migraine begins to loom, it feels like more than just a physical pain. It arrives with a familiar, dreaded shadow—the throbbing pressure behind the eyes, the sensitivity to light that forces you into a darkened room, and the nausea that makes every movement a mountain to climb. In those moments of isolation, it is easy to look at your “empty pocketbook” of physical strength and wonder if relief is coming.

But there is a spiritual “passbook” available to you that is overflowing with a different reality. If a friend deposited a hundred thousand dollars in your name, you wouldn’t check your pockets to see if you were rich; you would check the bank’s record. The Bible is your divine passbook. It declares that the work of your restoration is not something God is considering doing—it is something He has already deposited into your account through Christ.

The Correction of “If”

Many people approach God with the same theology as the leper who once stood before Jesus, saying, “Lord, if Thou wilt, Thou canst make me clean.” Like that man, you might believe God has the power to stop the migraine, but you are unsure of His will.

The first thing Christ did was correct that theology. He said, “I will; be thou clean.” In that moment, Christ’s “I will” cancelled the man’s “if.” He didn’t just prove He was able; He proved He was willing. This is the foundation you must stand on when the pain is shouting for your attention: His will for you is wholeness. He is the Good Shepherd, and His first concern is taking care of you, not seeing what He can get out of you.

A Legal Proclamation of Liberty

The Gospel is a worldwide emancipation proclamation. It is a legal document that declares your liberty from the bondage of sickness. When Jesus cried out, “It is finished,” He meant the work was completed in the eyes of the Father. Legally, because He took the beating, you are free. Because He took the punishment for sin and its consequences, you have a right to walk in health.

Paul understood this legal protection. When faced with opposition, he stood on his rights as a citizen. You, too, were born into a kingdom of protection. You were “born free” into the family of God, and that birthright includes the provision of healing.

1. Believe the Report

Scripture asks, “Who has believed our report?” (Isaiah 53:1). The arm of the Lord is revealed to those who believe the report of the Gospel over the report of the symptoms.

  • Matthew 8:17: “He himself took our infirmities and bore our diseases.”
  • 1 Peter 2:24: “By his wounds you have been healed.”

Notice the tense of these verses. They are not in the future; they are settled, sealed, and final decisions of His will. God expects us to reckon as done what He says was done.

The Hearing of Faith

In Acts 14, we see a man who was born crippled. He didn’t wait for a “special” troubling of the water or a rare miracle. He heard the Word preached, and as he heard, faith was ignited. You don’t have to wait for a special feeling to be healed from migraines. You can get into the Word for yourself right now.

Miracles do not flow from your ability to be perfect or your “law-keeping.” They flow by the hearing of faith.

2. Renewing the Mind

To walk in this reality, you must renew your mind. Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds so that we can “test and prove” what is the will of God. If everything that happened was God’s will, we wouldn’t need to test anything. Sickness is not His perfect will for His children. He wills for us to be in good health so that we may labor in His service.

Holding Fast to Your Confession

What do you say when the “weakness” of a migraine tries to take hold? The Bible gives us a strange instruction: “Let the weak say, ‘I am strong'” (Joel 3:10). Usually, we say what we feel: “I’m hurting, I feel bad, I don’t know what’s wrong.” But we are called to hold fast to the confession of what Christ has done so that it may be done in us.

Your words are a reflection of whose report you believe. Do not examine your “empty pocketbook” of energy; examine your “passbook” of promises. Say, “He is my Shepherd, and by His stripes, I am healed.”

3. The Choice of Life

You might hear people say, “What if it doesn’t work?” or “I’m trying.” But in the kingdom of God, there is no “if,” and there is no “trying.” There is only doing through faith. You have a choice. Even when the world gives you a terminal report or a life sentence of chronic pain, the Bible says you have a choice to believe God’s measure of life.

The Joy of Restoration

Healing restores joy because it restores what the thief tried to steal. Think of the thirteen-year-old boy who, after being prayed for, felt his feet move into place and went out to learn how to use roller skates. That same power—the Spirit that ministered to him—is the Miracle-Worker in you today.

4. Overcoming the “Thorn”

Do not let traditional ideas rob you of your inheritance. Some suggest that God uses disease to teach patience, using Paul’s “thorn in the flesh” as an excuse. But a deep study of the Word reveals that God is the author of life, not disease. He has set gifts of healing in the Church because He longs to see His children whole.

A Prayer for Migraine Release

“Heavenly Father, I thank You that my healing is already deposited in the bank of heaven. I refuse to look at my symptoms as the final authority. I hold fast to the confession that Jesus took my infirmities and bore my pains. I command the pressure and the pain to leave my head now in Jesus’ name. I receive Your ‘I will’ and I walk in the liberty of a child of God. Amen.”

5. Walking in the Finished Work

Remember, you are protected. You were born into this. As you go through your week, mark these verses in your Bible. You may need to help someone else next week who is struggling. When you sit down with them, show them the passbook. Show them that it is already theirs.

By His beating, we are free. By His stripes, we are healed.

Muscular Dystrophy and Healing Prayer: Finding Strength and Restoration

Jesus, the Great Physician

The world we live in is not whole. Every generation spends billions searching for cures, yet disease and decay still mark humanity. But Jesus Christ entered a broken world as the Great Physician. He came not only to forgive sin but to heal the sickness that sin unleashed upon creation. The Church, His Body, is meant to continue His ministry of healing and restoration—not as a theory, but as a living witness that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

When Jesus walked among the crowds, “great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there.” (Matthew 19:2) He never turned away the sick, the weak, or the broken. He never said, “It is not My will.” Every person who came in faith was touched by His compassion and power. Divine healing is not an outdated doctrine; it flows from the same heart that still beats with mercy today.

The psalmist wrote, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1) That includes healing and strength. When sheep lie down in green pastures, it’s because they are full and content. The Shepherd provides not partial care, but complete satisfaction. His presence does not always remove every challenge, but it fills every valley with peace and promise.

To those walking through the challenges of muscular dystrophy, hear this: your condition does not disqualify you from the Shepherd’s care—it invites His nearness. God has not abandoned you to weakness; He walks with you in it. Every breath, every prayer, every day of endurance is seen by the Father who heals and restores.

Job’s story reminds us that sickness comes from the enemy, not from God (Job 2:7). Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). Healing is not God’s reluctant gift; it’s His redemptive right. He declared Himself Jehovah-Rapha, “the Lord who heals you” (Exodus 15:26). That name never changed. He did not say, “I was the Lord who healed you.” He still is.

Faith does not deny pain; it declares a higher truth. It believes that the same Jesus who raised Lazarus can raise strength in you—spirit, soul, and body. Healing is not always instant, but every moment spent trusting Him is a miracle of grace in motion. So hold fast to His Word: He is your Shepherd, your Physician, and your Redeemer. You shall not want.

Redeemed, Restored, and Strengthened

Isaiah saw the future and wrote, “With His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) Healing was not an afterthought—it was part of redemption. Jesus bore our griefs and carried our sorrows, which literally mean our sicknesses and pains. At the cross, He took upon Himself the full weight of sin and its consequences, including disease. Therefore, the believer can confidently say, “I’m redeemed from the curse of the law” (Galatians 3:13).

Redemption means restoration to purpose. Muscular dystrophy may challenge the body, but it cannot cancel divine purpose. The Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you, quickening your mortal body (Romans 8:11). That life-giving Spirit empowers you to live beyond limitation—to sing, to pray, to inspire others with courage born from grace. Healing begins as a seed planted in the heart. As you speak God’s promises, you water that seed with faith until strength blossoms within.

James wrote, “Pray for one another, that ye may be healed.” (James 5:16). Healing often flows through community. The Church must not be silent but must carry the healing water of life to those in need. When believers allow the Holy Spirit to flow through them, miracles happen—not by human power, but by divine compassion.

Faith must also resist unbelief. Jesus could not do many mighty works in Nazareth because of unbelief (Mark 6:5-6). Today’s world, full of skepticism and “religious tradition,” can become a Nazareth of unbelief. But the believer who dares to say, “Jesus is still my Healer,” opens the door for the miraculous.

You may not see immediate transformation, but healing can be progressive, unfolding through time, prayer, and perseverance. The Shepherd who gave His life for the sheep will not abandon you midway. He will strengthen your heart and renew your hope day by day.

And even now, as you read these words, His mercy covers every place of pain, disappointment, or fatigue. Mercy makes up for what you cannot do. Mercy is the breath of God that says, “You are still Mine. I am working even here.”

Lift your eyes from the weakness and fix them on the Redeemer. Let your confession agree with His Word: “I am redeemed. I am loved. I am being renewed.” The same Jesus who called Lazarus from the grave calls your body, your faith, and your destiny to rise. The world may still search for cures, but the Church carries the Healer. And His name is Jesus—your strength, your Shepherd, and your everlasting life.
