When a migraine begins to loom, it feels like more than just a physical pain. It arrives with a familiar, dreaded shadow—the throbbing pressure behind the eyes, the sensitivity to light that forces you into a darkened room, and the nausea that makes every movement a mountain to climb. In those moments of isolation, it is easy to look at your “empty pocketbook” of physical strength and wonder if relief is coming.
But there is a spiritual “passbook” available to you that is overflowing with a different reality. If a friend deposited a hundred thousand dollars in your name, you wouldn’t check your pockets to see if you were rich; you would check the bank’s record. The Bible is your divine passbook. It declares that the work of your restoration is not something God is considering doing—it is something He has already deposited into your account through Christ.
The Correction of “If”
Many people approach God with the same theology as the leper who once stood before Jesus, saying, “Lord, if Thou wilt, Thou canst make me clean.” Like that man, you might believe God has the power to stop the migraine, but you are unsure of His will.
The first thing Christ did was correct that theology. He said, “I will; be thou clean.” In that moment, Christ’s “I will” cancelled the man’s “if.” He didn’t just prove He was able; He proved He was willing. This is the foundation you must stand on when the pain is shouting for your attention: His will for you is wholeness. He is the Good Shepherd, and His first concern is taking care of you, not seeing what He can get out of you.
A Legal Proclamation of Liberty
The Gospel is a worldwide emancipation proclamation. It is a legal document that declares your liberty from the bondage of sickness. When Jesus cried out, “It is finished,” He meant the work was completed in the eyes of the Father. Legally, because He took the beating, you are free. Because He took the punishment for sin and its consequences, you have a right to walk in health.
Paul understood this legal protection. When faced with opposition, he stood on his rights as a citizen. You, too, were born into a kingdom of protection. You were “born free” into the family of God, and that birthright includes the provision of healing.
1. Believe the Report
Scripture asks, “Who has believed our report?” (Isaiah 53:1). The arm of the Lord is revealed to those who believe the report of the Gospel over the report of the symptoms.
- Matthew 8:17: “He himself took our infirmities and bore our diseases.”
- 1 Peter 2:24: “By his wounds you have been healed.”
Notice the tense of these verses. They are not in the future; they are settled, sealed, and final decisions of His will. God expects us to reckon as done what He says was done.
The Hearing of Faith
In Acts 14, we see a man who was born crippled. He didn’t wait for a “special” troubling of the water or a rare miracle. He heard the Word preached, and as he heard, faith was ignited. You don’t have to wait for a special feeling to be healed from migraines. You can get into the Word for yourself right now.
Miracles do not flow from your ability to be perfect or your “law-keeping.” They flow by the hearing of faith.
2. Renewing the Mind
To walk in this reality, you must renew your mind. Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds so that we can “test and prove” what is the will of God. If everything that happened was God’s will, we wouldn’t need to test anything. Sickness is not His perfect will for His children. He wills for us to be in good health so that we may labor in His service.
Holding Fast to Your Confession
What do you say when the “weakness” of a migraine tries to take hold? The Bible gives us a strange instruction: “Let the weak say, ‘I am strong'” (Joel 3:10). Usually, we say what we feel: “I’m hurting, I feel bad, I don’t know what’s wrong.” But we are called to hold fast to the confession of what Christ has done so that it may be done in us.
Your words are a reflection of whose report you believe. Do not examine your “empty pocketbook” of energy; examine your “passbook” of promises. Say, “He is my Shepherd, and by His stripes, I am healed.”
3. The Choice of Life
You might hear people say, “What if it doesn’t work?” or “I’m trying.” But in the kingdom of God, there is no “if,” and there is no “trying.” There is only doing through faith. You have a choice. Even when the world gives you a terminal report or a life sentence of chronic pain, the Bible says you have a choice to believe God’s measure of life.
The Joy of Restoration
Healing restores joy because it restores what the thief tried to steal. Think of the thirteen-year-old boy who, after being prayed for, felt his feet move into place and went out to learn how to use roller skates. That same power—the Spirit that ministered to him—is the Miracle-Worker in you today.
4. Overcoming the “Thorn”
Do not let traditional ideas rob you of your inheritance. Some suggest that God uses disease to teach patience, using Paul’s “thorn in the flesh” as an excuse. But a deep study of the Word reveals that God is the author of life, not disease. He has set gifts of healing in the Church because He longs to see His children whole.
A Prayer for Migraine Release
“Heavenly Father, I thank You that my healing is already deposited in the bank of heaven. I refuse to look at my symptoms as the final authority. I hold fast to the confession that Jesus took my infirmities and bore my pains. I command the pressure and the pain to leave my head now in Jesus’ name. I receive Your ‘I will’ and I walk in the liberty of a child of God. Amen.”
5. Walking in the Finished Work
Remember, you are protected. You were born into this. As you go through your week, mark these verses in your Bible. You may need to help someone else next week who is struggling. When you sit down with them, show them the passbook. Show them that it is already theirs.
By His beating, we are free. By His stripes, we are healed.
