Redemption Includes Healing
When Jesus cried, “It is finished,” the work of redemption was complete. Nothing was left unpaid, and nothing was left out. Salvation, healing, peace, and restoration all flowed from one crimson stream at Calvary. Isaiah 53:5 declares, “He was wounded for our transgressions… and by His stripes we are healed.” Healing, then, is not a side blessing; it is part of the purchase price of redemption.
Some still say, “It’s God’s will to heal some, and not others.” But if that were true, could we say the same about forgiveness? Is it God’s will to forgive some sinners and not others? Never! The cross stands as the eternal “yes” of God to every soul and every body. “Whosoever will may come” (Revelation 22:17). Healing, like salvation, belongs to whosoever believes.
Yet there is a mystery—what Scripture calls the musterion, known only to the initiated, revealed by the Spirit. Sometimes healing looks different than we expect. God’s power shines not only in deliverance from weakness but sometimes through it. Paul’s “thorn” (2 Corinthians 12:7–10) teaches that divine strength may manifest in human limitation. The miracle, then, is not only when the mountain moves, but when faith stands unmoved before it.
To the parent or sibling who loves someone with Down syndrome: know this—your family member is not outside God’s redemptive plan. They are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). Their life declares the wisdom of God that confounds the proud. Jesus showed His power through a human body, and He still does—through every life yielded to Him. Healing is not always the removal of a chromosome difference; sometimes it is the shining forth of divine love through gentleness, laughter, and unexplainable joy.
Your faith is not misplaced. Keep the Word planted, for “it is life to those who find it and health to all their flesh” (Proverbs 4:22). Let the Word water the soil of your heart until hope rises again. Believe not merely for change, but for Christ’s presence in the midst of your circumstance. The Redeemer bought it, paid for it, and made it available—healing for body, mind, and soul. Glory to God!
The Shepherd’s Mercy and the Mystery of Wholeness
Faith does not live in church alone; it walks with us into doctor’s offices, therapies, and daily care. The same Jesus who healed the leper and opened blind eyes still whispers, “Be not afraid, only believe.” (Mark 5:36). Belief is not denial of reality; it is recognition of a higher one.
When we think of mercy, we often think of sin forgiven—but God’s mercy reaches farther. He has mercy for confusion, exhaustion, and even for our mistakes. Many parents of children with special needs have prayed, “Lord, I don’t understand.” And heaven answers with mercy, not condemnation. His mercy rebuilds faith when logic fails.
Healing is a seed. It begins as revelation in the heart before it appears in the body. “According to your faith be it unto you” (Matthew 9:29). The seed of the Word must stay planted and watered. Whether the healing comes suddenly or gradually—or manifests as inner peace rather than outward change—God’s promise is sure.
Remember the man lowered through the roof (Mark 2). Jesus first said, “Your sins are forgiven.” Then He said, “Rise and walk.” The order matters. Healing flows from restored fellowship. When we rest in our Shepherd’s goodness, we find both forgiveness and strength. Psalm 23 reminds us that He “restores my soul.” Restoration means bringing back to divine purpose. For a family walking with Down syndrome, that restoration may appear in radiant joy, unexpected breakthroughs, or the simple beauty of unconditional love.
The enemy may whisper, “Nothing can change.” But Christ answers, “With God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26). The Shepherd still anoints heads with oil, and His goodness still follows His flock. Healing—whether in the form of wholeness, peace, or miracle—is already paid for, already promised, and already near.
So keep believing. Keep thanking Him in advance. The same redemption that forgave your sin also covers your family. The Lord your God is Jehovah-Rapha—the One who heals you. His mercy is new every morning, His power works in weakness, and His love never fails. This is the Gospel that works—today, forever, and for you.
