Allergies and Healing Prayer: Finding Freedom and Relief

The Origin of Sickness and the Covenant of Healing

When the first pollen of spring floats through the air, many people brace themselves for the symptoms that follow—sneezing, watery eyes, itching, congestion, and fatigue. Hay fever may seem like a small thing compared to greater diseases, but even this irritation was never part of God’s original plan. The Bible tells us plainly where sickness came from: “By one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men.” (Romans 5:12) Sickness is a part of that death system. It came when Adam fell, not when God created the world. God did not design His children to suffer from any form of decay or corruption.

In His original creation, there was no sickness, no curse, and no allergy season. Every flower bloomed without harm, and every breath of air was clean and life-giving. But when sin entered, everything changed. Humanity lost the glory covering that protected them from corruption. Yet even in that fallen world, God made a covenant of mercy. He said in Exodus 15:26, “I am the Lord that healeth thee.” The Hebrew name there is Jehovah-Rapha, meaning “the Lord our Healer.” He didn’t say, “I was,” but “I am.” His healing nature has never changed.

Jesus came to restore what Adam lost. He healed all who came to Him, showing the Father’s heart. He said, “He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also.” (John 14:12) Healing isn’t a side issue in the gospel; it is part of redemption itself. The same blood that forgave your sins also purchased your healing. Isaiah saw it centuries before the cross: “With His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)

If hay fever has plagued your life, know this: you are not at the mercy of your immune system. You are under the covenant of healing. God’s power is greater than the histamines in your blood or the pollen in the air. Say it aloud: “I am redeemed from the curse of the Law.” (Galatians 3:13) The curse includes sickness, weakness, and affliction. So, each time symptoms try to rise, declare the covenant—“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want… He restoreth my soul.” (Psalm 23) Breathe deeply of His Word. Healing begins when your spirit receives the truth of His eternal name—Jehovah-Rapha.

Living in Absolute Dependence on the Healer

Healing is not just an event—it’s a relationship. The same way a branch depends completely on the vine for life, we must depend absolutely on Christ for health. The branch has nothing of its own; it draws every drop of strength from the vine. Jesus said, “Without Me, ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5) That includes breathing freely in springtime.

Many believers struggle because they are half-dependent—trusting medicine alone, or their own willpower, or waiting for the season to pass. But divine health flows from continual dependence. Each breath, each moment, is sustained by the life of Christ within. When you wake with congestion or watery eyes, whisper, “Lord Jesus, You are my breath of life.” Let faith replace frustration. Absolute dependence means absolute confidence that His power is working right now.

Paul faced buffetings from Satan but still declared victory. He wrote, “We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” (Romans 8:37) Hay fever may seem small, but it is still an enemy of peace—and peace is part of salvation. As you stand in faith, resist the thought, “I’m just weak today.” Those words belong to the world. God says, “Let the weak say, I am strong.” (Joel 3:10)

Remember: sickness is not an angel, nor a messenger from God—it is a thief of life. Every time Jesus met sickness, He healed it. Every time the devil brought torment, Jesus brought peace. And He has not changed. Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”

So when pollen stirs and symptoms rise, lift your eyes to your Shepherd. He already took your beating so you wouldn’t have to take it. Declare, “Jesus bore this for me.” Then rest—just as the sheep lie down in green pastures when they are full and safe. Your healing is not something you must earn; it’s something you receive by remaining in the Vine.

Let your testimony be this: “I depend absolutely on God, and He makes everything right.” You are not designed for weakness; you are designed for divine life. Walk in your covenant. Breathe freely, and know that the Lord your Healer lives in you.
