Faith for Healing from Cold Sores
The Bible teaches that healing is a part of the complete salvation Jesus provided through His atonement. Many Christians struggle with recurring illnesses like cold sores, which are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). The cycle of recurring outbreaks can lead to a sense of defeat, but Scripture provides a foundation for believing in God’s will to heal us completely. The truth is, we don’t have to wait for God to decide to heal us; we can act on our faith to receive the healing that is already ours.
The key is to understand that Jesus is our Healer. He bore our sicknesses and infirmities, including chronic conditions. Just as it is God’s will for all to be saved from sin, it is His will for all to be healed from sickness. Matthew 8:17 states that Jesus “took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses,” connecting His suffering on the cross directly to our physical healing. Therefore, a person battling cold sores can stand on this promise, knowing that Christ’s work on the cross included the eradication of the HSV and its symptoms. This is not about being worthy enough to be healed, but about receiving what has already been provided for us as a gift of grace.
The recurring nature of cold sores can test one’s faith. The outbreaks, with symptoms like painful blisters, swollen glands, and fever, can feel like a constant reminder of the illness. However, instead of confessing weakness, a person can strengthen their faith by confessing the Word of God. The Bible says, “The Lord is the strength of my life” (Psalm 27:1). When a new outbreak appears, instead of saying, “I have a cold sore,” a person can say, “I am strong in the Lord; He is the strength of my immune system, and by His stripes, I am healed.” This act of faith-filled confession aligns our words with God’s promises, setting the stage for His power to manifest.
Taking Action with Faith
Receiving healing from a chronic condition like cold sores requires active faith, not passive waiting. The story of the woman with the issue of blood in Luke 8 is a perfect example. She had suffered for twelve years, but when she heard about Jesus, hope was ignited. She believed that just by touching His clothes, she would be healed. Her determination to press through the crowd was an act of faith. Similarly, a person seeking healing for cold sores must be determined. Instead of accepting the condition as “just something I have,” they can press in with their belief. This might involve prayer, finding a quiet place to read and meditate on healing scriptures, or having a faith-filled conversation with a trusted friend.
The book of Acts shows us that healing is part of the “continuing ministry of Jesus.” The apostles did not heal by their own power; they ministered in the name of Jesus, and God confirmed their preaching with signs and wonders. This same power is available to believers today. The gifts of healing are plural—gifts of healings—which suggests different kinds of healing for different kinds of ailments. A person can receive a gift of healing for their recurring cold sores. It’s not about being “special” but about being a believer who is ready to receive what God has already provided.
The key to overcoming sickness is to repent from unbelief. The Bible tells us that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). If a person has been told that cold sores are a lifelong condition, that belief can hinder their healing. The solution is to repent from that unbelief and fill their mind with the truth of God’s Word. Read scriptures on healing, listen to teachings that build faith, and declare out loud that you are free from the virus. This act of “watering the seed” of God’s Word in your heart will produce a harvest of healing. Healing is not a lottery; it is a promise for all who believe.
