Ataxia and Healing Prayer

The Bible is filled with testimonies of God’s miraculous healing power. From the Old Testament to the New, we see that healing is not just an act of mercy but also a demonstration of God’s authority over sickness and disease. The physical ailments we face, such as ataxia, which affects balance, coordination, and speech, remind us of our dependence on God’s divine power for restoration.

Healing is central to the ministry of Jesus. He healed the blind, the deaf, and those who could not walk. In Matthew 4:23, it says, “Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.” This shows that no sickness was beyond His reach. No matter how severe or how long-standing, Jesus had the authority to restore complete health.

One of the most powerful testimonies of healing is found in Acts 19:11-12, where it says, “God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured, and the evil spirits left them.” This illustrates that the anointing of God can flow through physical objects, as His power is not limited. Just as Paul’s handkerchiefs carried divine power, our faith-filled prayers can be a channel for healing.

Healing is not just for biblical times; it is still available today. Jesus declared in John 14:12, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” The same power that raised Lazarus from the dead, made the lame walk, and opened blind eyes is at work in us through the Holy Spirit.

At times, healing may not come instantly. In Luke 17:14, when Jesus healed the ten lepers, He told them to go and show themselves to the priests, and “as they went, they were cleansed.” Their healing was progressive. This teaches us that even if we don’t see immediate results, we must continue walking in faith, trusting in God’s perfect timing.

Authority Over Sickness and Walking in Divine Health

As believers, we have been given authority over sickness and disease. Jesus commissioned His disciples in Luke 9:1-2, “When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” This authority was not just for the apostles; it extends to all who believe in Him.

The authority we have comes through the blood of Jesus Christ. His sacrifice on the cross not only redeemed us from sin but also from sickness. Isaiah 53:5 declares, “By His wounds, we are healed.” This is a powerful promise that our healing was already secured through the suffering of Christ.

Healing is not based on our worthiness but on God’s grace. When the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:22-28 pleaded with Jesus to heal her daughter, He initially seemed to refuse, but her persistence and faith moved Him. He then commended her faith and healed her daughter instantly. This shows that God’s mercy extends to all who believe, regardless of background or circumstance.

While we pray for healing, it is also important to walk in divine health. Proverbs 4:20-22 instructs us, “My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.” The Word of God is a source of life and health. Meditating on Scripture strengthens our faith and aligns our spirit with God’s promises.

Another key to receiving healing is acting in faith. When Jesus healed the man with the withered hand in Mark 3:1-5, He told him, “Stretch out your hand.” The man could have hesitated, but instead, he obeyed, and as he acted, his hand was restored. Similarly, when facing physical conditions like ataxia, we should step out in faith—whether through prayer, speaking God’s Word, or believing in our healing despite what we feel.

Healing also involves resisting the enemy. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of darkness. Some sicknesses may have a spiritual root, and we must stand firm against them by declaring God’s promises, rebuking the enemy, and resisting fear and doubt. James 4:7 instructs us, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” When we stand firm in faith, sickness has no place in our lives.

The early church demonstrated the power of healing through faith. Acts 5:15-16 states, “People brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. Crowds gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.” This shows that God’s healing power is limitless and operates through various means.

Even today, God desires to heal. Jeremiah 33:6 proclaims, “Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.” This promise remains true for us. Whether it’s an immediate miracle or a gradual process, God’s healing is real, and His power is at work in our lives.

In conclusion, healing is a part of God’s covenant with His people. He has given us authority over sickness, secured our healing through Jesus’ sacrifice, and called us to walk in divine health. No matter the condition, even one as challenging as ataxia, God is able to restore balance, coordination, and speech. As we stand in faith, declare His promises, and act upon His Word, we will witness His miraculous healing in our lives. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so! (Psalm 107:2).
