Healing from PTSD: Finding Divine Liberty for the Broken Spirit

When someone you love is battling Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), it can feel as though a stranger has moved into their body. You see the person you knew, but they are often eclipsed by symptoms that feel overwhelming: the sudden “shrieking” of a panic attack, the darkened understanding caused by constant hyper-vigilance, or the heavy weight of depression that makes them feel “crushed and broken into pieces.”

Watching a loved one struggle with flashbacks, night terrors, or emotional numbness can make you feel helpless. You might wonder if God sees the “gravel” in their mouth or the “stinging” in their mind. But the Gospel brings a revelation of grace that is designed specifically for the “downtrodden” and the “bruised.” God is not a distant observer; He is the Great I AM who does not change, and His will is to set the oppressed at liberty.

The Power of a Strong Spirit

In the realm of the spirit, peace and joy are the primary evidence of strength. When a person is battling PTSD, their spirit often feels weak and “darkened.” This isn’t because they lack value, but because the trauma has acted as an oppressor, trying to “thump” them on the head and take away their confidence.

However, the Bible tells us that the “joy of the Lord is our strength.” This joy isn’t a happy feeling based on circumstances; it is a spiritual “recharge.” Even when the outward man is struggling with the physical effects of trauma, the inward man can be renewed day by day. As you stand in the gap for your loved one, recognize that God’s Spirit is working to “bind up that which was broken” and to put a “freshness” back into their life. He fills our lives with good things so that our youth and mental clarity are renewed.

Scripture 1: 2 Corinthians 4:16

“For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”

Believing the Gospel of Liberty

When Jesus encountered those who were “vexed” or “crushed,” He didn’t tell them to be thankful for their “snake.” He dealt with the oppression and restored them to their right mind.

Jesus was anointed specifically to “set at liberty them that are bruised.” The word “bruised” here refers to those who have been broken into pieces by the pressures of life. PTSD is a “bruising” of the soul, but the anointing of the Holy Spirit is the “sting-remover.” God works miracles among us not because we have perfectly obeyed every law, but because we believe the Gospel—the good news that Jesus has already redeemed our lives from destruction.

Scripture 2: Ezekiel 34:16

“I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick…”

The Confession of Victory

Success in the face of mental and emotional torment is assured because we have a High Priest of our confession. When the “outlaw” of fear tries to take advantage of a loved one’s past, we must hold fast to the truth of redemption. Faith is thanking God from the heart for the healing that has not yet fully manifested.

If your loved one is struggling to find their voice or their “song,” remember that God promised that the tongue of the dumb shall sing and the stammerer shall speak plainly. This includes the restoration of a mind that has been silenced by trauma. Do not get “darkened” by griping or fault-finding; instead, keep your mouth filled with the “benefits” of God. He forgives all iniquities and heals all diseases—including the diseases of the mind and the trauma of the past.

Scripture 3: Psalm 103:2-3

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;”

Restoration to a Normal Lifestyle

In the New Testament, we see accounts of people who were so tormented that they couldn’t live normal lives in the community. But once Jesus dealt with the problem, a great change for the better came. They were restored to their families, sitting in their right minds, and clothed in peace. This is the inheritance of those who are “born of God.”

You are not just a relative of someone with a diagnosis; you are a “newborn brother or sister” in Christ with the power to release God’s grace into the room. Whether the struggle is a “level 1” anxiety or a “powerful spirit” of fear, the grace of God is sufficient. It is a demonstration of His great love toward us, in spite of ourselves. Take heart, stay “teachable” to the Spirit, and trust that the “sap” of the heavenly Vine is flowing into your loved one’s mind even now.

Chest or rib injuries and Healing Prayer

In times of pain and injury, it is natural to feel discouraged. When you experience chest or rib injuries—whether from a fall, an impact, or another trauma—it can affect not only your body but also your mind and spirit. However, as believers, we are not alone in our suffering. God is our healer, and His promises offer comfort and strength during difficult times.

God’s Promise of Healing

Throughout the Bible, God assures us of His power to heal. He sees every wound, every bruise, and every broken rib. The Lord says in Exodus 15:26, “For I am the Lord who heals you.” This truth remains steadfast today. When you are hurting, know that God is near.

Chest and rib injuries, though painful, can often be managed at home. However, certain symptoms require medical attention. If you experience significant trauma, difficulty breathing, or changes in your ribcage, seek professional care. According to medical professionals, most rib fractures do not require X-rays, but if you experience severe pain that prevents deep breathing or a persistent cough with blood, do not hesitate to contact emergency services. Just as God gives wisdom to doctors, He also provides us with discernment to seek help when needed.

Faith in the Midst of Pain

Pain can test our faith, but even a small mustard seed-sized faith can move mountains (Matthew 17:20). When Jesus walked on earth, He healed the sick and comforted the weary. One powerful example is the woman who had been suffering for twelve years. She believed that just by touching the hem of Jesus’ garment, she would be healed. And she was! (Mark 5:25-34). Her faith led to her healing.

Just like that woman, you too can reach out to God in faith. No matter how long you have been in pain, God is able to restore you. Even when healing is not immediate, trust in His perfect timing.

The Power of Prayer and Declaration

When pain feels overwhelming, speak God’s promises over your life. The Bible encourages us to pray for healing. James 5:14-15 says, “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well.”

If you are struggling with pain from a rib or chest injury, take a moment to pray:

“Father, I come before You today, trusting in Your healing power. You are my refuge and strength. Lord, I ask that You touch my body and restore my health. Remove this pain and bring comfort to my soul. Thank You for Your love and healing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

God is in Control

Pain can be discouraging, but it is important to remember that God has a purpose for our lives. The enemy wants to weaken our faith through suffering, but God strengthens us in the storm. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that we are not just fighting physical battles but also spiritual ones. When we place our trust in Jesus, He becomes our protector and healer.

Sometimes, healing comes in unexpected ways. A testimony of faith can be powerful. One believer shared how they had suffered from chronic pain due to an injury but continued to pray and trust God. Over time, not only did their pain lessen, but they also grew closer to the Lord. God works in mysterious ways, using every situation for His glory.

Rest and Recovery with God’s Peace

Healing requires rest, both physically and spiritually. Psalm 4:8 says, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” When dealing with chest or rib pain, it is crucial to take deep, slow breaths, rest as needed, and avoid strenuous activity until healing occurs. God designed our bodies to recover, and He gives us wisdom to care for ourselves.

Take time to reflect on His goodness, read His Word, and spend moments in prayer. Healing is not only about the body—it is also about renewing the mind and spirit. Even in moments of discomfort, God’s peace surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Encouragement for the Journey Ahead

If you are facing a slow healing process, do not lose heart. The Bible is filled with stories of people who waited patiently for God’s healing and deliverance. Isaiah 40:31 encourages us: “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

Your journey of healing is a testimony in the making. God will use your experience to strengthen your faith and encourage others. Whether healing comes quickly or takes time, trust that God is working in you. Keep praying, keep believing, and keep holding on to His promises.

Conclusion

God is Jehovah-Rapha, the Lord our Healer. He sees every broken bone, every bruised rib, and every weary heart. While medical treatment is essential when needed, faith is the key to sustaining hope and strength. If you or a loved one are dealing with chest or rib injuries, hold on to God’s promises. He is with you, and He will never leave you.

As you recover, remember that God’s healing extends beyond the physical. He heals the heart, the mind, and the soul. Trust in Him, seek wisdom, rest in His peace, and know that healing is on the way. “The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness” (Psalm 41:3).

Stay encouraged, and may God bless you with strength and restoration. Amen.

Lungs and Respiratory Health: Healing Prayer

Date: March 8, 2025

Healing is a central theme throughout the Bible, with God frequently demonstrating His power to heal both physical and spiritual afflictions. As we consider the subject of healing, especially in relation to conditions such as bronchiectasis, which causes the airways of the lungs to become abnormally widened, we are reminded that God is a healer in all aspects of life. Bronchiectasis leads to the accumulation of mucus, which can increase the risk of infection and complicate breathing. While this condition typically appears in middle age, it can affect individuals at any point in life. It is crucial for those facing such ailments to turn to God in faith, trusting His power to restore them to health.

The Biblical Foundation for Healing

Throughout Scripture, we see that God is the ultimate source of healing. From the Old Testament to the New Testament, God’s healing power is made clear. In Exodus 15:26, God reveals Himself as Jehovah-Rapha, meaning “the Lord who heals.” He promises to bring healing to His people if they listen to His commands and walk in His ways. The promise is clear: God’s desire is for His people to be healthy and whole, both physically and spiritually.

In the book of Matthew, we see the power of Jesus’ healing ministry. Matthew 4:24 tells us, “News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them.” Jesus didn’t just heal specific ailments; He healed a wide range of afflictions, demonstrating that there is no sickness too great for God’s healing power.

When Jesus walked the earth, He healed people from all walks of life, showing compassion and mercy. He healed the blind, the lame, the sick, and even raised the dead. One notable example of healing in the New Testament is the healing of the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years. In Mark 5:34, Jesus told her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.” This woman was healed not only through Jesus’ power but also through her faith in Him. This example demonstrates the importance of trusting in God’s ability to heal.

Faith and Healing: The Key to Restoration

Faith is an essential part of the healing process. Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Just as the woman with the issue of blood had faith that Jesus could heal her, we are called to have faith that God will heal us when we seek Him. Our healing may not always come in the way we expect or within our desired timeframe, but we can trust that God’s will is perfect.

In the case of bronchiectasis, which causes the airways to become abnormally widened and results in the build-up of mucus and frequent infections, it is vital to trust in God as the ultimate healer. Although medical treatment can manage bronchiectasis and alleviate symptoms, God can bring complete healing, whether through direct intervention or through the wisdom He imparts to medical professionals. The Bible encourages us to bring all our concerns to God in prayer, trusting that He hears and answers our prayers. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Healing in the Name of Jesus

One of the most powerful aspects of healing in the Bible is the authority that Jesus gave to His disciples to heal the sick. In Matthew 10:8, Jesus instructs His disciples, “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” This shows that the power of healing is not limited to Jesus alone; He has passed it on to His followers to continue His work on earth. This promise is not just for the apostles but for all believers in Jesus Christ.

As believers, we can trust in the name of Jesus for healing. John 14:14 assures us, “If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.” This promise is a reminder that, through Jesus’ name, we have access to God’s healing power. Whether we are facing a long-term condition like bronchiectasis or another illness, we are encouraged to pray in faith, asking in Jesus’ name for healing and restoration.

The Importance of Healing Prayers and Community Support

When we are struggling with a health issue like bronchiectasis, it can be difficult to know where to turn. The Bible encourages us to reach out to others for support and prayer. James 5:14-15 says, “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.” This passage highlights the importance of community support in times of illness. God calls us to care for one another, praying for each other’s healing and well-being.

In addition to prayer, seeking medical treatment is not contrary to faith. God has given us the knowledge and resources to address health issues, and He works through medical professionals to bring about healing. While medical intervention may help manage conditions like bronchiectasis, we should not forget that ultimate healing comes from God. In Luke 4:40, we read, “At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them.” Jesus used both His divine power and His human compassion to heal, demonstrating that God works in a variety of ways to bring restoration to His people.

The Promise of Complete Restoration

While bronchiectasis and other long-term conditions can be challenging, we can take comfort in the promise that God is a God of restoration. In Revelation 21:4, we are reminded that, in the new heavens and the new earth, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Ultimately, God’s plan is to bring complete healing and restoration to His people. This promise assures us that, no matter what we face in this life, there is a future where pain and suffering will be no more.

Conclusion

Healing is a fundamental part of God’s nature, and His word is filled with promises of restoration and health. Whether facing a condition like bronchiectasis or any other illness, we can trust that God is our healer. Faith, prayer, community support, and medical treatment all play a role in the healing process, but ultimately, we place our trust in God’s power to restore us. As we walk in faith, we can confidently approach God for healing, knowing that He desires our well-being and has the power to make us whole.
