Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy (DCM): Healing Prayer

A Cure for Sickness: The Gospel of Healing

Friends, it’s so good to be with you today as we dive deep into the Word of God on a topic that touches all our lives: healing. There’s a question that’s been around for a long time, a question that can bring confusion and doubt to a believer’s heart: “Is it God’s will to heal everyone?” We’ve all heard someone say, “Well, it’s God’s will for some to be healed, and for some, it’s not.” But I want to challenge that idea today with the glorious truth of the Gospel!

Let’s look at the heart of the matter. Jesus’s work of redemption on the cross wasn’t a partial victory; it was a total, complete, and all-encompassing triumph! The very same sacrifice that paid for our sins also purchased our healing. Isaiah 53:5 tells us, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” The Bible doesn’t say “by His stripes we MIGHT be healed.” It says we are healed. It’s an accomplished fact.

Think about it like this: If we can say that God’s will is for some to be saved and for some not to be, we would be denying the very foundation of the Gospel. That’s a ridiculous thought! The Bible says that salvation is for “whosoever will believe” (John 3:16). It’s the same for healing. If Jesus bought and paid for healing through His substitutionary sacrifice, then it belongs to every person who believes! It’s not a mystery for the select few; it’s a glorious reality for the initiated—those who have been saved by the grace of God and understand the full scope of His redemptive work. The word “mystery” (from the Greek word musterion) doesn’t mean something is impossible to know. It means it’s a truth that can only be understood by those to whom it’s been revealed by the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit reveals to us that the same work that cured us of our sin also cured us of our sickness, including conditions like degenerative cervical myelopathy. This condition—with its neck pain, tingling in the arms and legs, and difficulty with coordination or balance—is a result of a fallen world, not God’s will. Sickness isn’t from God; it’s a part of death that entered the world because of sin (Romans 5:12). But glory to God, there’s been a cure for sin, and if sin has been taken care of, why can’t you be healed? You have just as much right to be healed as you do to be forgiven. Both are based on the same work of Jesus. Let this truth sink deep into your spirit. It’s a seed that needs to be planted in your heart, watered with the Word of God, and steadfastly trusted. Your healing is not a maybe; it’s a promise! It’s the present-day result of believing in a God who is alive and well in the 21st century.

The Power of Faith: Our Good Shepherd and Our Healer

Welcome back, family. In our last session, we established that healing is part of our redemption, an accomplished fact bought and paid for by Jesus. Now, let’s talk about how we activate that healing in our lives. It’s one thing to have a truth in our heads, but we need to get it in our hearts, so we can walk in the reality of it.

Remember the story of the two blind men who followed Jesus, calling out, “Have mercy on us!” (Matthew 9:27-30). When they were inside a house, Jesus challenged them directly: “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” Their answer was a resounding “Yes!” And what was Jesus’s response? “According to your faith will it be done to you.” Wow! Jesus didn’t just heal them; He put the power of the miracle right back into their faith. It wasn’t some special, random act. It was a direct result of their belief! The same is true for us. The seed of God’s Word must be planted in our hearts and trusted.

We need to become like the man with the withered hand, to whom Jesus simply said, “Stretch forth your hand” (Mark 3:1-5). The man could have said, “But my hand is withered! I can’t stretch it!” Instead, he acted on the Word of Jesus, and as he obeyed, his hand was restored. That’s a life of absolute dependence on God. It’s a life where we stop depending on what we can see or what we feel and start depending on what God has said. If you’re experiencing the symptoms of degenerative cervical myelopathy, with its difficulty in manual coordination or unsteadiness, we need to stop walking around saying, “I feel weak and unsteady.” We need to start declaring what the Word of God says about us.

Our God is Jehovah-Rapha, “The Lord Who Heals” (Exodus 15:26). This isn’t just a nice name; it’s a powerful declaration of His character. He is our Good Shepherd (Psalm 23), and He has promised to lead us, guide us, and care for us. When we face sickness, He is right there, ready to demonstrate His power. We see this throughout the book of Acts: Ananias and Sapphira were judged, and many healings followed (Acts 5:1-10). Philip had a citywide revival in Samaria, and people were healed (Acts 8:5-8). The Gospel Paul preached in Lystra was so full of faith that a man lame from birth was healed just from hearing it (Acts 14:8-10). This isn’t just history; it’s a blueprint for us today!

Do you believe God is great? Do you take His name and His Word seriously? We need to believe for miracles. You don’t have to know how; you just have to believe God. Just as Jesus emphatically said He would continue His works in answer to our prayers (John 14:12-13), we are called and anointed to demonstrate His power. This is the day for believers to arise, to declare the only Gospel that works, and to show an unbelieving world that our God is alive and well. The choice is ours. Will we depend on our own understanding, or will we depend on the Lord, our Healer? Let’s choose faith!
