Gout and Healing Prayer: Finding Comfort and Restoration

The Word and Your Length of Days

My dear friend, I want to speak directly to your heart today as you navigate the challenges of Gout. You may be experiencing the sudden, severe pain, swelling, redness, and tenderness—often in the joint at the base of your big toe, but sometimes in other joints like the ankles, knees, or hands. Gout attacks can be debilitating, often flaring up at night, leaving you feeling weak and disheartened.

But there is hope and strength to be found in the eternal, unchanging Word of God.

The very first principle we stand on is that God’s Word is your source of long life and peace. Proverbs 3:1-2 says, “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.” This isn’t just about moral living; it’s a promise of vital, vibrant life. The Word of God, when kept and honored in your heart, is an antidote to the very things that try to shorten your life or diminish its quality. It is a seed of health and longevity.

The Seed of Healing and Mercy

To receive this life, the “seed” must be planted in your mind and heart. Just as a sinner must know and believe that it is God’s will to save them, a person seeking healing must know and believe that it is God’s will to heal them. The Word of God, planted and watered and steadfastly trusted, is what heals both soul and body. This seed must remain planted and be kept watered before it can produce its harvest. Don’t let the symptoms of Gout—the throbbing, burning pain—uproot your faith in this seed.

Sometimes, when we are suffering, we may be tempted to believe that God wants us to keep our affliction, or that we must pray until God speaks and gives us a scriptural reason for our sickness. While we always love and submit to the will of God, the Bible is clear that Jesus bore our sicknesses (Isaiah 53:4-5, Matthew 8:16-17). The finished work of Christ is the scriptural reason for your healing!

Also, in I Corinthians 11:30–32, the Scripture speaks of weakness, sickness, and being “judged” or “chastened” among those who didn’t properly discern themselves in relation to the Lord’s body. However, the purpose of this chastening is not condemnation, but correction: “But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.” If you find a place where you need to make an adjustment or grow in discerning your faith, do it! God’s correction always leads back to life and health.

Finally, let’s consider God’s mercy. When we think of mercy, we often think of forgiveness for sin, and we thank Him for that. But He has mercy for other things too—He has mercy on you when you’ve made a mistake, and He has mercy for your physical needs! When you feel overwhelmed, you can appeal to His mercy and say, “Lord, I’m asking You for mercy. I believe You are my Good Shepherd (Chapter 19), and Your mercy is available to me now.” He desires to see you well and whole. The reality of your symptoms is Rock! That’s what you’re getting. Rock—meaning, a solid, immovable foundation of healing in Jesus, who is the Rock of your salvation.

Believing God for Present-Day Results

You have just as much right to be healed as you do to be forgiven; it’s based on the same work of Jesus. If there’s been a cure for sin, and sickness is often a result of the fallen world (the effects of sin), then why can’t you be healed? The answer is: You can! The redemptive work of Jesus on the cross provided a complete package: spiritual, financial, and physical redemption (Numbers 21, the fifth type of redemption). This truth must be built into our consciousness and replace religious ideas that limit God’s power.

Faith That Works Everywhere

This belief in healing isn’t something you’re only supposed to believe in church. If you truly believe it in church, then you ought to believe it at the doctor’s office, too. Your faith isn’t dependent on a location; it’s dependent on the Word of God. When you go to a medical professional, bring your faith with you! The two aren’t mutually exclusive. Just as Peter healed Aeneas (Acts 10:32-35) and Ananias healed Saul’s blindness (Acts 9:17-18), the power of God is for present-day results of believing God.

Think about the paralyzed man whom four friends lowered through the roof (Mark 2:3-5). Jesus didn’t scold the interrupters; He looked at the man and said, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” This shows the deep connection between forgiveness and healing. In fact, Jesus often linked the two because He saw the person’s complete need—forgiveness first, then healing.

Faith in Action

The key to your healing from Gout, or any other affliction, is faith. Consider the two blind men who followed Jesus, crying out, “Have mercy on us.” (Matthew 9:27-30). When they were inside, Jesus challenged them: “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” Their answer was a positive “Yes!” And Jesus replied, “According to your faith will it be done to you.” Wow! Jesus put the challenge right back on them. The promise of healing is there, but your positive affirmation of belief is the necessary gateway for it to manifest.

This faith isn’t just of the head; it’s not just an intellectual idea that you “heard.” Faith is not of the intellect. It must move from your head to your heart, becoming a deep, settled conviction. This is why you need to keep saying it and standing on the Word. Time after time, as you speak and believe, the Spirit of God will come in power.

Even if you only have a little bit of faith, start there! Like the man with the withered hand, whom Jesus simply commanded, “Stretch forth your hand,” (Mark 3:1-5) your job is to respond to the Word of God in simple obedience and belief, no matter what your Gout symptoms—the swelling, stiffness, and severe tenderness—may be telling you. You don’t have to know how God will do it; you’re just going to believe God for miracles. Remember, “through his bruises was healing granted to us.” That healing is yours today.

Ankle avulsion fracture and Healing Prayer

Healing is an essential theme in the Bible, demonstrating God’s power, love, and restoration. Just as our physical bodies can be injured and require healing, our spiritual lives also need God’s touch to restore and strengthen us. Today, we will explore both physical and spiritual healing, using the example of an ankle avulsion fracture or a 5th metatarsal fracture and how the Bible speaks about God’s healing power.

Understanding Physical Healing

When we experience an injury such as an ankle avulsion fracture or a 5th metatarsal fracture, we often hear different terms like “fracture,” “break,” or “crack.” These terms all mean the same thing—a disruption in the bone. However, a fracture affects more than just the bone. The surrounding soft tissues, including muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves, also suffer damage. Healing, therefore, is not just about the bone mending but about the complete restoration of all affected parts. This mirrors how God’s healing works—not only does He restore one area of our lives, but He brings full restoration to our body, mind, and spirit.

God is the Healer

The Bible is clear that God is our healer. In Exodus 15:26, He declares, “I am the Lord who heals you.” Healing is not just something God does; it is who He is. Just as a doctor examines the whole body to determine the best treatment, God looks at every aspect of our being and provides healing where it is needed.

Psalm 103:2-3 says, “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.” This verse reminds us that healing is part of God’s goodness and mercy toward His people. Whether the pain is physical, emotional, or spiritual, we serve a God who is willing and able to heal.

Jesus: The Great Physician

Throughout His ministry, Jesus demonstrated God’s power to heal. Acts 10:38 says, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.”

When Jesus healed, it was often a holistic process. For example, in Luke 5:17-26, Jesus healed a paralyzed man not only by restoring his ability to walk but also by forgiving his sins. This shows that God’s healing touches every part of our lives.

Similarly, when someone fractures a bone, healing requires more than just a cast. The muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves must also recover. Just as physical therapy strengthens the body during recovery, spiritual disciplines like prayer, faith, and obedience strengthen us as we receive healing from God.

Faith and Healing

Faith plays a significant role in receiving healing. James 5:14-15 says, “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well.” This scripture encourages believers to seek prayer and trust in God’s healing power.

Jesus often told those He healed, “Your faith has made you well” (Mark 5:34). Faith is like the body’s natural healing process—it works in unseen ways to bring restoration. Just as our bodies need rest and proper care to recover from an injury, our spirits need to rest in God’s promises and trust His timing.

Healing in the Midst of Suffering

Sometimes, healing does not happen immediately. Just as a fracture takes time to heal, there are times when God allows a process of healing in our lives. Paul speaks of his own struggles in 2 Corinthians 12:9, where God tells him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Even when healing is not immediate, God gives us grace to endure and grow in faith.

It is also important to remember that healing is not always physical. Sometimes, God heals emotional wounds, strengthens our faith, or teaches us perseverance. Romans 8:28 reminds us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Even in pain, God is at work.

How We Can Receive Healing

  1. Believe in God’s Power to Heal – Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith, it is impossible to please God.” Trusting in God’s power and goodness is the first step toward healing.
  2. Pray for Healing – Philippians 4:6 encourages us to bring our requests to God. Ask Him for healing, and trust His will.
  3. Seek Support from Others – James 5:16 tells us to “pray for each other so that you may be healed.” There is power in community and prayer.
  4. Take Care of Your Body – Just as we trust God for healing, we also have a responsibility to care for our bodies. Eating well, resting, and following medical advice are all part of God’s wisdom for healing.
  5. Speak God’s Promises – Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” Declare healing scriptures over your life and stand on God’s Word.

Conclusion

Healing is a process that affects every part of our lives—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Just as a fracture impacts surrounding tissues, our struggles in life often affect multiple areas. But God, our ultimate healer, restores us completely. Whether healing comes immediately or over time, we can trust that He is working for our good. Let us stand in faith, pray with confidence, and rest in the truth that “by His wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
