OCD and Healing Prayer: Receiving the Gift of a Sound Mind

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can feel like a relentless storm within the mind. It is characterized by intrusive, distressing thoughts and the overwhelming urge to perform repetitive behaviors or mental acts to quiet the anxiety those thoughts produce. For many, it manifests as a desperate need for symmetry, a fear of contamination, or an agonizing cycle of “checking” and “doubting.” In the natural realm, it can feel like being a prisoner to one’s own senses, trapped by a nature that seems stuck in a loop of fear.

However, the Word of God provides a foundation for a completely different reality. There is a profound difference between acknowledging that God is “able” and knowing that He is “gracious” and “willing.” The enemy is quite comfortable with you magnifying God’s power in a distant, abstract way, because power without willingness does not provide a basis for faith. But the Scripture reveals a Heavenly Father who is disposed to show favors. He is not just capable of calming the mind; He is longing to see His children made whole in every way.

The Heritage of the Child

Healing and peace of mind are not matters of divine sovereignty reserved for a select few “special” believers. They are the heritage of the child. An earthly father does not give his love only to the children who are “good enough” or those who have perfectly calm minds. He gives to all because they belong to him.

If you have struggled with the feeling that you must be “perfect” or “calm” to receive from God, you are looking at the wrong source. We do not enter His presence based on our own merit, but by His grace and mercy. You are a child of God, and the Father’s love offers you full salvation—which includes the deliverance and “mini-resurrection” of your thought life.

Scripture 1: John 1:12-13

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

A Quickening in the Mind

The same Holy Spirit who will one day raise our whole bodies from the dead is currently dwelling within you. If He can raise a dead body, why can He not reach over and touch your mind? Why can He not touch your nerves, your neurotransmitters, and the very pathways of your thoughts with a “quickening”?

Redemption is a total exchange. Jesus took the “curse” of confusion and mental oppression so that you could receive the “blessing” of a sound mind. You don’t have to battle through this on your own. Just as the Israelites were protected by a barrier that kept out the snakes and scorpions of the desert, God can place a protective barrier over your mind. When intrusive thoughts come “patrolling” like a predator, they can run up against the force field of God’s presence.

The Authority of the Spoken Word

Demons and spirits of fear recognize authority. When the seven sons of Sceva tried to use the name of Jesus without having a personal relationship with Him, they were humiliated. They had the “head knowledge,” but they lacked the spiritual authority. As a believer, you have been given the mind of Christ and the authority to speak to the “mountains” in your life.

If the Lord says you are forgiven and set free, then you must say you are forgiven and set free. If you say, “I don’t feel like I am,” you are giving the Lord nothing to work with. Faith is believing what Jesus says enough to obey it. When the intrusive thoughts of OCD demand your attention, you can release your faith and declare, “I am strong in the power of His might. The Lord is my victory.”

Scripture 2: Romans 10:17

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Faith Above Feelings

No physical sensation—whether it is the “misty, darkened” feeling of anxiety or the physical urge to perform a compulsion—is a good reason for doubting a divine promise. It would be foolish to doubt the return of Christ just because you feel a pain in your body; it is equally foolish to doubt your healing because of a feeling in your mind.

God is just as faithful to His promise to heal as He is to any other word He has spoken. We are to confess that our redemption is complete and that Satan’s dominion over our thought life is ended. Calvary has freed us. We stand on our “emancipation proclamation,” not on the evidence of our senses. Even if the thoughts feel “fiery” like the serpents in the wilderness, we look to the finished work of Christ and live.

The Children’s Bread

Healing is not a “dessert” served only on special occasions. It is the “children’s bread.” It is a staple of the Christian life. Everyone in the family is supposed to have bread. You don’t have to act “special” to ask for it. It is your right as a member of the household of faith.

The Gospel is for the “recovery of sight to the blind,” which includes those whose minds have been “smoky, misty, or darkened” by the fog of OCD. Restoration means regaining something that was lost. If you have lost your peace, your time, or your joy to compulsive cycles, the Lord is the God of restoration. He is Jehovah-Rapha, the Lord who heals you, and Jehovah-Nissi, the Lord your Victory.

Scripture 3: 2 Timothy 1:7

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Walking in the Newness of Life

Do not let the “ignorance and unbelief” of the world keep you from your heritage. Miracles are just as necessary today as they were in Ephesus or Africa. We consist of flesh and blood, and it is in our very “flesh and blood” that God wills to manifest His presence.

Expect miracles. Expect a “mini-quickening” in your brain chemistry. As you continue to listen to Jesus more than anyone else, your “listening heart” will begin to hear His spoken word of peace. When you believe what He says enough to action it, things start to change for the better. You are not a “pitiful sheep” left to the predators of anxiety; you are a laborer together with God, and He is making your way perfect.

Obesity and Healing Prayer: Restoring the Image of God in Your Body

The challenge of obesity is often viewed through the narrow lens of natural laws, calorie counting, and physical exertion. While these intermediary agencies have their place, there is a tendency to attach more importance to the remedy than to the direct action of God. When we become so occupied with the visible struggle, we can inadvertently intercept the presence of our God and turn away from the very Source of our life.

You were created in the image of God. Have you ever considered why you have the shape you have? Why two hands, two eyes, and a single heart? It is because you are patterned after God Himself. You are made in His likeness and His image. Because you are His masterpiece, your body is not meant to be a place of bondage or a “bitter pill” of toxicity and weight; it is meant to be a temple of liberty.

The Sweetness for the Bitter Water

In the wilderness, the Israelites encountered a waterhole that was bitter and undrinkable. Their natural instinct was to complain and look for a new source. But the Lord showed Moses a tree, and when that tree was cast into the water, the bitterness was made sweet.

Obesity and its related symptoms—the heaviness in the limbs, the strain on the heart, the shortness of breath, and the metabolic toxicity—can feel like a bitter malignancy that cannot be fixed. But the God we serve specializes in making the bitter sweet. Just as the tree changed the water, the “tree” of the Cross has already provided the restorative power to make your physical being clean, normal, and healthy.

Scripture 1: Isaiah 53:4

“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.”

From Strength to Strength

When the physical senses report weakness or a lack of self-control, the natural man wants to retreat. However, the spiritual man must feed on the Word to gain the upper hand. You must feed your spirit even more than you realize. Hearing the truth of God’s provision has a “pounding effect” on your inner man, pushing out unbelief and fear.

Even when you feel weaker than you have ever felt, your confession must remain steadfast. You must say: “I am going from strength to strength. I am increasing with strength. I am moving from level to level of restoration.” This is not a theory; it is spiritual exercise. Just as you nourish your body, you must nourish your spirit with the revelation that you are washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus. You are not a “sinner” struggling with a “vice”; you are a redeemed child of God walking out your freedom.

The Lesson of Naaman’s Pride

We often see people fail to receive because of false preconceptions. Consider Naaman, a noble man who suffered from leprosy. When told to wash in the Jordan River, his pride was insulted. He thought there were better, more “logical” ways to be healed. It was only when he humbled himself and obeyed the simple Word of the Lord that his flesh was restored like that of a little child.

In the journey of overcoming obesity, pride or “ordinary means” might tell you that the Word is not enough. But the commands of God are not mere theories; they are the authority in Heaven and on earth. When you humble yourself to believe that “all things are possible to him that believes,” you tap into a power that transcends the laws of nature.

Scripture 2: Acts 10:38

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

Sickness is Oppression, Not a Teacher

The Spirit, speaking through the Book of Acts, makes it clear: Jesus went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil. God does not use physical ailments or bodily struggles to teach you lessons. Sickness and disease, including the metabolic disorders associated with obesity, are recognized by the Spirit as satanic oppression.

God is not the author of the weight that slows you down; He is the author of the “wings” that help you rise. Malachi speaks of the Sun of Righteousness arising with healing in His beams. This healing is an inclusive promise. If the darker dispensations of the Old Testament offered mercy and compassion to sufferers, how much more does the glorious Gospel dispensation—built on a better covenant—offer you today?

The Year of Jubilee

In the Old Testament, the Year of Jubilee was the time when every lost possession was restored. If you had lost your land or your freedom, you got it back. Imagine the joy of laying down your shovel and heading home because the “Jubilee” had been declared.

You have a Jubilee for your body. If you have lost your health, your shape, or your vitality to the enemy’s oppression, today is the day to take back your “farm.” You are redeemed from the curse. You are washed. You are cleansed. You do not have to wait until you see the physical change to believe you are saved and restored; you believe it first, and then the manifestation follows.

Scripture 3: Matthew 8:17

“That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.”

Refreshing the Soul and Body

The Literal Translation of the Psalms tells us, “My soul He refresheth.” This refreshment is not just for the “inner man,” though it begins there. As your spirit is fed and your soul is refreshed by the Word, it begins to affect your mortal flesh. The symptoms of life remain in a tree for a time even after it is cut down, but eventually, the old “death” must wither away because the source has been severed.

Continue to feed on these truths as if you have never heard them before. Let the Word of God be your shepherd. A real shepherd feeds the flock, and as you are fed on this revelation, you will find that you no longer desire the things that lead to bondage. You are a new creation. You are going from strength to strength, and the Lord is confirming His Word in your body with signs following.

Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and Healing Prayer: Resting in the Life of the Vine

Receiving a diagnosis of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma can feel like a sudden storm that threatens to pull your focus away from everything stable in your life. You may be facing symptoms that feel overwhelming—swollen lymph nodes in your neck, armpits, or groin, persistent fatigue that sleep cannot touch, drenching night sweats, or unexplained weight loss. In these moments, the “bad reports” and physical sensations try to dominate your attention, but there is a higher reality that calls for your “absorbing gaze.”

To walk in restoration, we must look away from distractions and feelings. We must look at Jesus. Just as the Israelites in the wilderness looked at the serpent on the pole and lived, we look at the Son of Man lifted up for us. They kept their mortal life longer by looking; we receive both life for our bodies and eternal life for our spirits.

The Restfulness of the Branch

Think for a moment about a branch on a vine. If that branch could speak, it wouldn’t tell you about its hard work or its anxious efforts to produce grapes. It would whisper one simple lesson: Rest.

The branch doesn’t worry about the summer heat or whether it has enough sap; it simply trusts the vine to provide everything. When the harvest is good, the vine gets the glory. When you are facing an illness like lymphoma, your first job is to come and rest in your Lord Jesus. Let Him bear the responsibility for your health. You are the branch; He is the living Vine. Your life is one of entire dependence and deep restfulness.

Scripture 1: Isaiah 53:5

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

The “Strap Oil” of the Spirit

There is an old expression about “strap oil”—the idea that a good whipping settles a pouting child. In a much more glorious sense, the “stripes” (the whipping) that Jesus took settled the issue of your sickness forever. Sickness is not a “blessing in disguise”; it is an evil, satanic bondage.

By His wounds, you have been healed. This is a past-tense fact. We must believe and say what God says about our sicknesses. This is what it means to “confess”—to say the same thing as God. If He says you are healed, you say, “I am healed.” You might ask, “How can I say I am healed when I feel so tired or when my nodes are swollen?” You say it because your spirit needs to hear it. While you are saying it, you are hearing it, and it is feeding and nourishing your “inner man.”

Feeding the Spirit, Strengthening the Body

Just as you feed and exercise your natural body to make it strong, you must feed and exercise your spirit. Many people are weak on the inside because they don’t even realize they are a spirit. But you can become very strong.

Jesus said that man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. His words are spiritual food. When you read the Bible and hear the revelation of His Word, it pushes death, unbelief, and fear out of you. It has a “pounding effect” on your spirit, strengthening you to the point where “all things are possible” because you are a believer.

Scripture 2: John 3:14-15

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

The God who Makes the Bitter Sweet

When the Israelites reached the waters of Marah, they found them bitter and undrinkable. Their first thought was that they needed a new waterhole. Many people facing a health crisis think the same: “I need a new body,” or “this situation is unfixable.”

But we serve a God who can make the bitter sweet. He didn’t give them a new waterhole; He healed the one they had. He can take a body affected by lymphoma and “recover you and make you to live.” He is ready to save you. He is Jehovah-Rapha—the Lord who heals you.

Walking by the Sight of Eternal Things

Faith never waits to see before it believes. If it waited for the symptoms to vanish first, it wouldn’t be faith. Faith is the evidence of things not seen.

Abraham “waxed strong in faith” by looking at the promises of God and nothing else. To “attend” to God’s Word means to keep His promises in the midst of your heart. As a seed must stay in the ground to grow, God’s “imperishable seed” must be kept in your heart continuously. Don’t give God’s Word a mere glance; give it a steady, absorbing gaze. Look at the promise until the promise becomes more real to you than the night sweats or the fatigue.

Scripture 3: James 5:15

“And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”

The Sacrifice of Praise

Jonah offered a “sacrifice of praise” while he was still in the stomach of the great fish. He called his symptoms “lying vanities” before he was ever vomited onto dry land. You can do the same. Even before the blessing is manifested in its visible form, you can offer thanksgiving.

Believing that God has already heard your prayer is the “good soil” that allows the seed to go to work. Renouncing the total reliance on earthly remedies and counting on His invisible presence strengthens your faith in an extraordinary manner. It establishes a new tie of confidence between you and the Savior.

A Prayer for Restoration

“Lord Jesus, I come to You as a branch to the Vine. I choose to rest in You today. I refuse to be distracted by symptoms or bad reports. I look at You, lifted up on the cross, taking my infirmities and bearing my pains. I thank You that by Your stripes I am healed. I speak strength to my body and life to my spirit. I believe I receive my healing right now. Amen.”

You are the temple of the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit that did miracles in the early Church is in office today to do miracles in you. Be sufficiently enlightened by His promises, abandon the things which are seen, and lay hold of the eternal life that is yours in Christ.
