The physical challenge of pneumonia can feel like a heavy weight upon the chest, making every breath a struggle and sapping the body of its natural vitality. Symptoms such as a persistent, deep cough, sharp chest pain when breathing, high fever, and extreme exhaustion can leave a person feeling fragile. When the very act of breathing—the most basic sign of life—becomes difficult, it is natural for the heart to seek a higher source of strength.
The Divine Authority to Overcome
When we look at the ministry of Jesus, we see a consistent pattern of restoration. Healing was not a side-issue or a rare occurrence; it was a vital, central part of His work on earth. Jesus didn’t just walk the earth as a spectator to human suffering; He moved with a divine anointing to reverse the effects of disease. More importantly, He did not keep this power to Himself. He delegated His authority to those who follow Him, giving them the right to stand against all manner of sickness.+1
This authority is not based on human merit or religious performance, but on the finished work of the Atonement. Just as there is provision for the soul to be delivered from sin, there is equal provision for the body to be delivered from disease. To believe in one is to logically believe in the other, as both are branches of the same Gospel. If you are facing the congestion and inflammation of pneumonia, realize that you have a legal right to health. Sickness is not a “love-token” from God; it is a work of the enemy that Jesus came to destroy.+1
Scripture 1: Ezekiel 37:5
“Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.”
The Power of the Spoken Word
If you want to see a different result in your body, you must align your words with the life-giving truths of the Word of God. Life and death are held in the power of the tongue. It is easy to speak about how “bad” the fever is or how “tight” the lungs feel, but to see a shift, we must speak what God says about our health. Faith is not merely waiting for God to move “in His own good time”; faith is reaching out and taking what He offers now.
Consider the example of Abraham. He did not ignore the reality of his physical condition—he knew the “deadness” of the situation according to nature—but he refused to let those facts become the final authority. He weighed the difficulties, but he believed God anyway. When the symptoms of pneumonia try to dictate your future, refuse to let them have the last word. God is the one who binds up what is broken and strengthens what is sick.
Scripture 2: Proverbs 18:21
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Divine Sap and Unbroken Fellowship
To be a healthy branch, you must stay connected to the Vine. The life-giving “sap” of the Holy Spirit flows most freely when we take time for quiet fellowship and communion. It is in these moments of stillness that the link between your physical body and God’s restorative power is strengthened. Do not look at this time as a duty or a tax on your day, but as a vital necessity for your recovery.
Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, that same Spirit is currently working to “quicken” or give life to your mortal flesh. This is a present-tense reality. Just as breath entered the dry bones in the valley, God is causing breath to enter your lungs. He is the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, and nothing—not even the most stubborn infection—is too hard for Him.
Scripture 3: Psalm 91:16
“With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.”
Resisting the Prolonged Attack
There is a common theological mistake that suggests God wants people to remain sick to teach them a lesson. If this were true, Jesus would have been acting against the Father’s will every time He healed a multitude. Instead, we see that He never turned anyone away. He healed all who came to Him, proving that wholeness is the desire of heaven.
You have been redeemed from the curse of the law. This means you have been redeemed from things that are prolonged, grievous, and lingering. If pneumonia is trying to take root and drag on, you must resist it. Stand against it and say, “No! This has no legal right to work in my life.” You are not an orphan fighting this alone; you are a child of the Most High, equipped with the power of the Spirit to demonstrate the Gospel through your own recovery.
A Harvest of Health
Every promise in the Bible is a seed. When you take a promise of healing and allow it to germinate in your heart, it will eventually bring forth a harvest that matches its nature. Just as one kernel of wheat can eventually feed a nation, one verse of Scripture can transform your physical state.
Do not be discouraged by “community unbelief” or the opinions of those who say the age of miracles is past. Those “red letters” in the Bible—the words of Jesus—trump human ignorance and religious confusion every time. He is the Lord who heals you. He is the one who increases strength to those who have no might. Take your stand on the Atonement today, let the breath of the Spirit fill your lungs, and expect to live out the full number of your days in strength and health.
