Coronary Heart Disease and Healing Prayer: Finding Restoration and Peace

Guarding the Heart, Both Physical and Spiritual

Coronary heart disease happens when blood flow to the heart is reduced or blocked, often by a build-up of fatty deposits called atheroma. When the arteries narrow, the heart doesn’t get the oxygen-rich blood it needs. Spiritually speaking, how similar this is to what can happen to the soul! When wrong thoughts, bitterness, fear, and unbelief build up, they can narrow the flow of God’s life into our spirit. But thank God, His Word brings cleansing, renewal, and healing—both for the natural heart and the spiritual one.

Proverbs 4:23 tells us, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” The heart pumps life through the body, just as our spiritual heart pumps faith, hope, and love into our daily walk. When blockages come—whether physical or spiritual—the flow of life is interrupted. But Jesus came to remove blockages. On the cross, His side was pierced and blood flowed freely, opening the way for us to receive life in abundance.

Coronary blockages remind us that prevention is better than cure. Spiritually, we must guard against the build-up of worry, anger, and worldly distractions. Naturally, we also lean on God’s wisdom for healthy habits. But above all, we rest on His Word for healing. Psalm 107:20 declares: “He sent His word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” His Word is life, cleansing the arteries of our soul and body with divine truth.

When a heart attack strikes, it is sudden and frightening. Yet the power of God’s Word is greater. Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee.” Even when the heart feels weak, His strength flows in. Faith says: “I receive that strength right now. My heart beats with the rhythm of life. My blood flows freely because the Lord is my healer.”

Jesus Himself said in John 14:27, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Notice He gave that command in the context of peace. Troubled hearts, spiritually or physically, find their healing in the peace of Christ. Stress and fear can constrict the natural arteries, but peace opens the flow. As we meditate on the Word and declare it with our lips, that peace becomes medicine to our hearts.

So keep your heart open, both to blood and to the Spirit. Just as arteries must remain unblocked, so faith must remain unhindered. Speak life daily: “My heart is strong, my blood flows freely, and the life of Jesus Christ is at work in me.”

Jesus, the Healer of the Broken Heart

When we think of coronary heart disease, we think of blockages, narrowings, and interruptions. Yet the Bible often speaks of the heart as the center of our being. Luke 4:18 records Jesus declaring His mission: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me… to heal the brokenhearted.” He is not only the healer of emotions but also the healer of bodies.

A heart attack comes when blood supply is suddenly cut off. How much this mirrors the attacks of the enemy, who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But Jesus answered in John 10:10: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Where the devil tries to cut off supply, Jesus restores abundance. Where the arteries close, He opens. Where strength fails, His strength begins.

The apostle Paul prayed for the Ephesians that they would be “strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man” (Ephesians 3:16). That strengthening flows from the inside out. The Holy Spirit brings vitality, not only to our spirit but to every cell and tissue. We can pray daily: “Lord, strengthen my heart. Let Your life-giving Spirit flow through me.”

Doctors can sometimes insert a stent to keep arteries open. In the same way, the Word of God acts like a divine stent—keeping the passageways of faith and life open and free from obstruction. Psalm 73:26 says, “My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.” Even if natural strength fails, divine strength replaces it.

Consider also Ezekiel 36:26, where God promises: “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.” This promise is not limited to salvation; it speaks prophetically to renewal in every dimension. He is able to give a heart made new—cleansed, strengthened, and restored.

Some may fear the future after a diagnosis of heart disease, but faith answers fear. Say boldly with the psalmist in Psalm 118:17: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” The heartbeat of faith is declaration. Just as the physical heart beats constantly, so our lips must speak life continually.

Healing is not just about avoiding death—it is about living abundantly. Jesus heals the brokenhearted in every sense. He heals arteries, restores circulation, calms fears, and removes grief. He is both physician and shepherd, both healer and comforter.

Friend, coronary heart disease may threaten, but the greater truth is this: Christ is the strength of your heart. Keep your faith arteries unclogged with daily praise, thanksgiving, and confession. Let His life flow freely through you, and let your testimony be strong: “Jesus Christ heals my heart.”
